USAGE
=====
To extract clips from a file, just follow these steps :

Select Clip Types

First of all, you should decide which kind of clips you want to look for.
Choose any combination of cliptypes by cheking or uncheking the
corresponding checkboxes in the box labeled 'Available Cliptypes'.

When in doubt, you can always just select all.

You can also search for MP3 Audio, but that function is not fully tested yet.
See "BETA Features" if you want to give it a try ...

Select Source

FMV-Extractor features two differnt 'modes' for analysis, Filemode and CD-Mode .

	Filemode
	--------

You'll have to open the file you want to analyse.
The easiest way to do so is to just drag a file from explorer onto FMV-Extractor.

Alternatively, browse for the file by either
	- clicking the Button labeled '...' right to the the box labeled ''
	- choosing 'Source', then 'Select Source File' from the main menu
	- clicking on the icon on the toolbar .

You can also just type the name (including path) of the file in the box
	labeled ''

When in doubt about what file to open, try the biggest files first.

	CD-Mode
	-------

Instead of analysing a single file at a time, the CD-Mode enables you to
analyse a complete CD in one go.

If you want to use CD-Mode in Windows 95,98 or ME, you have to have appropriate ASPI drivers.

If you're running Windows NT 3.51, 4.0 , 2000 or XP, you do not need ASPI drivers to
	use CD-Mode.

To enable CD-Mode, you can either
	- choose 'Options', then 'Enable CD-Mode' from the main menu
	- click on the icon on the toolbar .
To disable CD-Mode and revert to Filemode, just repeat this step.

The box labeled '' will be replaced by a dropdown-box which
contains the CD-ROM drive(s) available in your PC.
If you have more than one CD-ROM drive, choose the one you want to use
	for analysis.

All other extraction steps are exatly the same as for Filemode.

Be advised that CD-Mode is still a bit slowish in comparison to Filemode.
The fact that you don't have to specify individual files, however, should
more than make up for that flaw in most cases.

	NOTE :
	CD-Mode is for Data-CDs only.
Don't try it with DVDs, Audio CDs, Game Console CDs etc.
	Trust me, it won't work.

Analyse
To start the analysis, you can either
	- choose 'Source', then start 'Start Analysis'
	- click on the icon on the toolbar

While the analysis is running, FMV-Extractor will add every found clip
	to the cliplist.
If the statusbar indicates that the analysis has been completed and no
clips show in the cliplist, this means no clips were found in the source file.

	When in doubt, panic ;)

Viewing found clips

In order to view a clip found during the analysis, you can either
	- double click on the clips in the list
	- single-click on the clip, then click the icon on the toolbar
	- single-click on the the clip, then choose 'Play Clip' from the context menu.

The clip will be extracted into a temporaray file and will be deleted once you exit
	FMV-Extractor.

FMV-Extractor tries to play the clips using its own engine first.
If this fails, it will try to launch the associated player for that kind of clip.
If this also fails, you'll have to extract the clip and try to manually open it
	with an appropriate player.

If you prefer the clip to be played with the associated program instead of FMV-Extractor,
you'll have to disable 'Try internal playback first' in the 'Options' menu.

At this time, internal playback is possible for
	 - Avi Video
	 - MPEG-1 Video
	 - WAV Audio
	 - MIDI Audio
	 - MP3 Audio
	 - Bitmpap Pictures
	 - JPEG Pictures

Select Target
Now you'll have to specify where and under what names the clips you selected
	will be saved.

To do so, you can either
	- click the Button labeled '...' right to the the box labeled ''
	- choose ''Target', then 'Select Targets' from the main menu
	- click on the icon on the toolbar .
Please note that any extension you specify will be omitted !

Alternatively, you can just type the name (including path) of the file in the box
labeled ''. In this case, make sure you do not specify any
	extension !

When you extract the clips, the corresponsing number and extension for the
selected clip(s) will be automatically added to the target filename.

Confused ? See help file for an example ...

Choose Clips

After the analysis is done, choose which of the clips found in the file you want
	to extract to your harddrive.

Do so by clicking on the checkbox next to the corresponding clip in the cliplist.
You can also select or unselect all the found clips by either
	- choosing 'Clips', then 'Select All' or 'Unselect All' from the main menu
	- clicking on the corrsponding icons on the toolbar

Be wary though - not everything that FMV-Extractor lists as a clip
actually has to be one !
Thus, if FMV-Extractor finds, for example, a Bitmap with a size of 500 MB,
use common sense to determine whether this is likely to be correct.
When in doubt, just give it a try ...

Extract Clips

You can finally extract the selected clips to your hard-drive.
	Do so by either
 	- choosing ''Target', then 'Save Clips' from the main menu
	- clicking on the icon on the toolbar

	Note :
While FMV-Extractor extracts the selected clips, the progress indicator
will show how many of the selected clips have been extracted, not how
many bytes have been transfered !

That's it - you're done.

BETA FEATURE : MP3-Mode

You can use FMV-Extractor to search for MP3-Files.
(To be more precise, MPEG 1 Layer 1-3 and MPEG 2 Layer 1-3)

Alas, as of yet, the MP3 search routine is incompatible with all other
	search routines implemented in FMV-Extractor.

Thus, you can search either for MP3 or for any other clip types,
but not for both at the same time.

In order to activate MP3-Mode, select 'MP3 Mode' from the 'BETA' menu.
You will notice that all other clip types are grayed out until you deactivate
	MP3 Mode again.

All other procedures such as selecting source, viewing the clips or extracting
	remain just the same.

NOTE : THIS IS A BETA FEATURE !

It is not fully tested yet, and you use it at your own risk entirely !
(But then, you do so anyway ...)

Have fun !

===========================================
FMV-Extractor V1.3 Beta 1 uses WNASPI32.PAS and SCSIDEFS.PAS by daNIL (danila@starlab.ifmo.ru) Without those, there would be no CD-Mode !

FMV-Extractor V1.3 Beta 1 uses Inno Setup 2.0.10 as a setup application. If you're looking for a splendid yet simple setup program, get it at http://www.innosetup.com !

FMV-Extractor V1.3 Beta 1 was compressed using UPX 1.20w. Why ? Because it compressed the main executable from 690 KB to 263 KB. Get it at http://upx.sourceforge.net.

The Helpfile was written using Help Producer Light by MKinser Soft, which is by far the easiest-to-use and most flexible Help Authoring Tool I've ever seen. Get it at http://coolprograms.hypermart.net.
